Early 2018 • Transforming Frustration into Innovation
My longing to own a camera grew so intense that it sparked deep self-doubt and began taking a heavy toll on my mental wellbeing. A professional camera felt like an impossible illusion, and raising the funds to buy one felt completely unimaginable. Refusing to let my financial reality kill my passion, I sought a creative workaround. I was deeply inspired by online community pages and their editing contests, and I realized I could build a platform with a clear, win-win business model. The vision was simple: if I curated and featured 10 incredible creators, the Instagram algorithm and community shares would help them discover each other, collaborate, and ultimately get hired by clients who loved their work.
The Village Workspace • The Birth of Klineduo
One afternoon, after finishing my daily home chores at my village place, I decided to take a leap of faith. I wanted to build something I felt truly connected to—something that would keep me inspired regardless of my mood changes. I spent the day deleting my previous personal pictures and meme posts. Sitting with a piece of paper, I began writing down random names. The word Lineduo caught my eye, and by God's grace, I added a 'K' at the beginning to make it roll off the tongue perfectly. Klineduo was born. Operating from my village, I transformed my personal account into a dedicated photography feature page with a single goal: to build a creative-to-creative fanbase.
The Curation Hustle • Overcoming the Learning Curves
In the early days, inspired by platforms like do.ports, I consistently curated three to four stunning creative works every single day. Long before tools like Meta Business Suite existed, scheduling was a major challenge; I had to manually set alarm clocks to ensure I hit global time zones, saving my posts to Instagram drafts exactly one hour before publishing. However, as an emerging platform, I didn't fully understand the complex legalities of digital copyright law. When photographers or models messaged us requesting a takedown, we responded with deep empathy, immediately removing the posts and extending sincere apologies to ensure mutual understanding.
The Pivotal Lesson • Unlocking #KlinePorts
A revolutionary turning point occurred when an established portraits photographer from Sacramento/San Francisco slid into our direct messages. They shared invaluable advice: "If you are building a feature page, you must explicitly mention and tag artists in the text, or people will assume you are stealing their art." This advice completely transformed my perspective on digital attribution. I immediately established a standardized layout—"Kline Ports is proud to present..."—ensuring the photographer, models, and selection founder were explicitly credited. To streamline this ecosystem, I launched the hashtag #klineports. This adjustment reduced copyright complaints by 98%, transformed our comment sections into thriving spaces where artists recreated each other's concepts, and organically catalyzed the global community growth we see today.
Why Take A Turn?
The Shift
The decision to transition from sharing personal memes to elevating global creatives came down to a simple truth: my passion had evolved. When photography reshaped my entire mentality in late 2017, I realized that the digital space was missing an empathetic sanctuary for artists.
Why change to featuring creatives?
From memes to featuring creatives
Memes were a fun entry point into social media, but discovering the art of photography completely changed my perspective. I felt a profound emotional connection to visual storytelling and a strong pull to create. Because I faced the hardship of not being able to afford a camera myself, I chose to redirect my established platform to champion others who were navigating that same creative struggle.
When was Klineduo established and how?
Month and the establishment
Klineduo was officially established in March 2018 on Instagram. It began by curating and crediting jaw-dropping portraiture and lifestyle photography, utilizing a personal smartphone to actively discover and network with artists worldwide.
